Bali Elephant Encounters

elephants

Sumatran elephants are a rare and endangered species and in Bali there are several places where you can get to know these beautiful animals. Be sure to choose an elephant camp which cares well for the animals.

The Bali Elephant Camp – Visitors are welcomed with a drink at the village café then proceed to watch the elephants being bathed. Visitors meet the Head Mahout and are told about the daily routing of the elephants while the creatures are prepared for the ride. After the elephant ride visitors enjoy a 3 course meal in the Trunk n' Mahour Café. There is a short trek (Adventurer trek) and a long trek (Explorer) offered.

Bali Bakas Elephant Camp – The elephant tour is based at the starting point of Bakas Levi Rafting and is often combined with other activities like rafting. The rides on the elephants are in a teak chair on the elephant's back. Visitors pay an entrance fee to the Bakas Elephant Camp and can then see the elephants but this entrance fee does not include the elephant ride itself. There are rides for 15; 30; 40 and 60 minutes. The longer rides take you along the Melangit River and through farms, Bakas Village and paddy fields.

Elephant Safari Park Lodge, Taro, Ubud – Covering more than 3.5 hectares of land with botanical gardens as well as luxury accommodation and it is surrounded by forests. The facility includes an information center and a museum with elephant artifacts, memorabilia and a Mammoth skeleton. Visitors can hand feed the elephants, touch them, take photos with them and dine in the restaurant which overlooks a lake where the 29 elephants come to wash, drink and play. Visitors can see elephants painting and displaying their intelligence in other ways. There is a Safari Under the Stars event every evening at 6:45pm where diners get to meet the elephants and see an elephant show as well as take a moonlight safari through Taro Forest.

The Bali Safari and Marine Park has elephant rides as well as animal education shows, elephant bathing and an elephant parade on Saturdays and Sundays 9am-9:30am which goes from Ranthambore-Toraja-Canyon-Main Terminal-Main Gate and Macan Baru. You can see white tiger feedings and piranha feedings daily.
