Gardens by the Bay, Singapore
The Gardens by the Bay is a 101 hectare garden planted along the Singapore waterfront. It consists of a wonderland of horticultural artistry created to entertain, educate and amaze visitors. There are rare plants found in different habitats around the world from tropical forests to cool climate. In addition to bringing greenery and beauty to the urban jungle one of the key concepts of the Gardens by the Bay is environmental sustainability. The gardens were designed with energy and water saving features for example the Supertrees have solar panels to harvest solar energy which lights up the trees at night and rainwater collection tanks to water the plants. The gardens are divided into three sections – Bay East Garden Bay; Central Garden and Bay South Garden.
The Canyon is full of sculptures, both manmade and naturally formed rocks which have unusual shapes.
The Bay East Garden is a large park with open lawns, playgrounds and a 2km walkway along the edge of the Marina Reservoir open 24/7.
In the Sun Pavilion a desert landscape has been created with more than 1,000 desert plants including cacti from across the globe.
The Heritage Garden brings Singapore’s main cultures to life through themed - Indian, Chinese, European and Malay gardens.
The World of Plants gives you a multi-sensory encounter with the plant world.
Dragonfly & Kingfisher Lakes are gorgeous bodies of water with 440 meters of boardwalks along the banks and beautiful statues among the waterside plants.
The Supertree Grove is a group of eighteen 25-50 meter tall vertical garden structures designed to look like trees with wide canopies of “branches” spreading out like umbrellas at the top. The “trunks” of the trees are living walls of lush vegetation. To see the grove you can go to the top of one of the trees and walk along the 22 meter high and 128 meter long OCBC Skywalk. There is a twice daily Garden Rhapsody Light and Sound Show.
In the Children’s Garden is a place where kids can learn as they play. There are trampolines, suspended bridges and playgrounds as well as a huge water-play area divided into zones according to age groups – 1-5 and 6-12 years old.
In the Cloud Forest Conservatory visitors walk along a raised walkway among the treetops. The highlight is a 35 meter high “mountain” plant wall of lush vegetation and cascading down its side is waterfall.
The Flower Dome greenhouse has displays of plants interspersed with sculptures created to represent the country of original of the plants for example an Eiffel Tower created out of living plants.
