1. Amalienborg and the Changing of the Guard

This ceremony takes place in the square surrounded by royal palaces. If the monarch is at the adjacent royal winter home, Amalienborg Palace, then the ceremony is even more impressive. The Changing of the Guard takes place daily at 12 noon. It also takes place every two hours but with less pomp and ceremony. Get the details here!


2. Experimentarium City


This is a science center where kids can discover science through play, hands-on exhibits and experiences. The museum has both an indoor and outdoor area and kids can learn about their own bodies through exercises like testing the strength of your scream. 


3. National Aquarium Denmark, Den Bla Planet

This is Northern Europe’s largest aquarium and home to about 20,000 water creatures. The aquarium has a magnificent walk-through tunnel where you are surrounded by the swimming fish. There are five main sections - The Amazon, The African Great Lakes, Evolution and Adaptation and Cold Water. Get the details here!


4.Louisiana Museum of Modern Art


In the Children’s Wing you will find three floors of activities for kids. There are open workshops for kids where they can create their own art under the watchful eye of professional artists. The workshops are free to museum visitors and held Tues-Sun 11am-5:30pm for kids aged 4 to 16 years.

5. DGI-byen Swimming Center


This complex is much more than a swimming pool. It is perfect for a cold rainy day as the pools are indoors. There is a large elliptical pool; a sports pool; a mountain pool with a trampoline, seesaw and climbing wall; an inland lake pool and hot pools. 


6. Canal Boat Ride

Take a canal tour by boat with any of the companies which offer this service. You can take the guided tour around the harbor with a commentary and see many of the city attractions from the water. The boats leave from Nyhavn and Gammel Strand. 


7. Children’s Museum at the National Museum


Kids will love the Children’s Museum where they get to play their way through history including dressing up in period costume, getting on a Viking ship and being in a medieval fair. Get the details here!


8. The Round Tower


The Rundetaarn’s main attraction is the incredible unusual architecture. Kids will love the wide sloped walkway which spirals up to the top of the tower. At the top you have magnificent views across the city from the observatory. Read more here.


9. Open Air Museum


Spend some time outdoors seeing farm animals, historic gardens, mills and historic farm houses. Take the horse-drawn carriage through the open-air museum and see the 50 farm houses from the period 1650-1940. Check times before you visit as they close in winter. Get the details here!


10. Copenhagen Zoo

This huge zoo is divided into geographical regions and includes a kids’ petting zoo. The Copenhagen Zoo is one of the best things to do with your kids!

Highlights include the Arctic Ring, the Elephant House and the feeding times. 

There is a smaller petting zoo where younger kids can interact with the animals!
