Curacao Family Trip Reports

November 2009

We had a wonderful trip to Curacao. It was hurricane season so it was definitely nice to not have to worry about the weather as the island is out of the hurricane belt. I got a great deal staying at Breezes and was very happy with this hotel. It definitely isn't fancy but there are so many activities for the kids. My kids loved the circus trapeze, rock climbing and arcade. The beach staff took us out into the ocean on the Hobie Cat and the kids loved it. I thought about doing the Scuba diving course but it would have taken 4 days and my youngest couldn't have participated so we stuck to snorkeling which was really good. We snorkeled every day and saw lots of neat fish out by the breakwater.

It was wonderful to drop the kids at the kids club and relax in the hammocks with a drink. The rooms were nice with 2 double beds, cable tv and a balcony with ocean view. My package included a spa credit so I got a massage and a a facial which I enjoyed. The food was buffet style and I definitely got tired of it fast but there was some a la carte restaurants as well.

We took the free shuttle into town one day and did some shopping. The harbor front is so pretty and we got a kick out of the bridge opening for the ships to pass by. We checked out the fruit market and picked up some interesting fruit-not sure what they were as the vendors didn't speak English.

Another day we hired a taxi van with another family and did a tour of the island. We stopped at the Ostrich farm, aloe farm and the fort (which had great views of Curacao). We also went to Jan Thiel beach which was beautiful.

We also walked one day to the nearby Sea Aquarium and did the dolphin encounter. I wasn't terribly impressed with the encounter-I think we should have done the swim as it looked at lot more fun (also a lot more money though!). The aquarium was small but had some interesting things like the flamingo pool, shark feeding and the hands on aquarium where you can touch different things like starfish.

We had perfect weather-it only rained for 10 minutes one day-and there was a nice breeze during the day so it wasn't too hot. I would definitely return to Curacao there was lots more we didn't get a chance to do. The kids and I loved it.
